ABOUT DREAMSCAPE

Transitional space is the space where both real and imagined physical

boundaries between the body's "inside" and "outside" are put into play.

How can an online platform that invites imagination allow all learners to engage in a 'space of transition'?

When we think about physical places of learning, we tend to think of the traditional classroom setting with rows of uniform desks and chairs. Unfortunately, physical places of learning have the potential to favor the privileged by deeming some bodies more important than others (Ellsworth, 2004). This is evident through infrastructure designed for the able-bodied or academic settings that ignore mental health. Dreamscape invites you to think about how we can enter our inner and outer worlds as a way to access new places of learning. There is something very powerful about learning through one's own imagination. Sometimes, sitting in moments of self-reflection, contemplation, and wonder ignite new processes of learning. By allowing the mind to wander, we can begin to enter transitional spaces (Ellsworth, 2004), locations between self and other. This provides an opportunity to break through "the barriers of expectation, boredom, and predefinition" (Greene, 1995, p. 14) that is too prevalent in academic settings. It also challenges you to view learning as non linear — it spans across time and space in multiple directions. Perhaps, imagination can transform selfhood from a noun to a verb — an activity (Pinar, 2011), which informs your perceived reality and imagination.
